Our methodology

How We Document

Foafri exists to create a lasting archive of real African founder journeys — especially the ones that usually stay invisible.

Who we feature

We prioritize everyday founders building with limited resources, real constraints, and no polished pitch deck. We look for people who are actively operating (not just planning) and who are willing to share actual numbers, timelines, and setbacks. We cover founders across sectors and stages, but the core filter is authenticity and relevance to other builders on the ground.

What we verify

  • Business existence and basic operations (location, product/service, time in operation)
  • Key claims about starting capital, milestones, or current scale (where possible through conversation, documents, or on-site observation)
  • Context of the founder’s environment and constraints

We do not claim independent financial audits. We document what the founder shares and what we observe, and we note the source.

What we will not do

  • We do not polish numbers to make a story sound better.
  • We do not turn setbacks into pure inspiration without showing the actual difficulty.
  • We do not accept payment for positive coverage or for inclusion in a story.
  • We do not dramatize or invent details for effect.

How a story is made

  1. 01

    Conversation and selection

We start with an honest conversation to understand who you are, what you are building, and whether your story fits the archive.

  2. 02

    On-location or structured interview

A focused interview built around real process, numbers, and decisions — not rehearsed pitches or highlight reels.

  3. 03

    Visual documentation

We document the actual workspace, product, and daily reality of the founder, on the ground where the work happens.

  4. 04

    Editing for accuracy

Editing prioritises accuracy and clarity over performance. What ships is a faithful record, not a polished commercial.

Every story is treated as a permanent record for the next generation of African founders, not as temporary content.

Corrections

If we get something material wrong, we correct it publicly and note the change.
